What’s new

On March 31, 2025, Sonic added Jalapeño Ranch and Asian-Style Sweet Chili, and gave its classic Ranch, Honey Mustard and BBQ “bolder” flavor. Mackenzie Gibson, Sonic’s Vice President of Culinary & Menu Innovation, said at the launch: “Our guests love customization, and the new Jalapeño Ranch and Asian-Style Sweet Chili dipping sauces let them try different flavor combinations to suit their style.”

A year earlier, in May 2024, Sonic launched Groovy Fries with a matching Groovy Sauce nationwide.

What to dip in each sauce

When it announced the 2025 sauces, Sonic suggested pairing them with Tots, Premium Chicken Bites and Jr. Chicken Sandwiches. Here’s how the lineup matches up with common orders:

  • Chicken bites and tenders: Honey Mustard, Ranch or Asian-Style Sweet Chili.
  • Tots and fries: Ranch, Jalapeño Ranch or Groovy Sauce.
  • Burgers and chicken sandwiches: BBQ or Jalapeño Ranch for extra heat.
  • If you like it spicy: Jalapeño Ranch is the hottest option; Asian-Style Sweet Chili is sweet with a milder kick.

How to get Sonic sauces

Sauces are available at participating Sonic drive-ins and through the Sonic app, where you can add or change sauces when you order. Extra sauces may cost extra, and prices vary by location, so the app is the best place to see what your drive-in charges. To make two of the new ones at home, try our copycat Sonic sauce recipes.

Calories and nutrition

Sonic publishes nutrition and allergen information for its menu on its official website. Because Sonic reformulated several sauces in 2025, older calorie counts you’ll find online may be out of date. Check Sonic’s nutrition and allergen page for current figures, especially if you have an allergy.

Copycat recipes

These are our own home versions inspired by Sonic’s newest sauces, not Sonic’s recipes.

Copycat Jalapeño Ranch

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons dry ranch seasoning
  • 2 pickled jalapeño slices, finely chopped, plus 1 tablespoon of the brine
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro (optional)

Whisk everything together, then chill for at least 30 minutes so the flavors blend. Add more jalapeño for more heat.

Copycat Asian-Style Sweet Chili

  • ½ cup bottled sweet chili sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1 small garlic clove, finely grated

Stir together and let it sit for 15 minutes. It’s good with chicken bites, tots and fries.
